Meet, cuddle & bond with our curiously cute Alpacas!
A Shamarra Alpaca Farm Tour is an unparalleled opportunity to get up close and personal with alpacas, learn about this loving animal, and create some memories with friends and family in a stunning location.
You’ll find your new furry friends here at Shamarra Alpacas, home to a herd of 170 alpacas in a beautiful harbour on the slopes of an extinct volcano and overlooked by craggy volcanic hills.
Shamarra Alpacas is only an hour’s drive from Christchurch, and a scenic 20 minute trip from the historic seaside village of Akaroa.
Our panoramic views of Akaroa harbour and the rolling hills and peaks of the surrounding valleys are breath-taking, and will make every one of your selfies with an alpaca post-worthy. This is no ordinary trip to an alpaca farm.

Thanks for your awesome review, we really appreciate it. We're thrilled you had such a great experience visiting Shamarra!
A lovely and welcoming experience. Not only did we learn several alpaca facts but we got a window into the personalities and characteristics traits of several individuals. Their thick warm coats and gentle natures warmed hands and hearts. Thank you, we thoroughly enjoyed feeding, petting, and cuddling the alpacas.
We had a great time at this experience with very little pressure to spend more money. The guides with you in the fields are very supportive in making sure you enjoy the full experience and leave with lots of photos.
Great place and nice day spent with alpacas
Great view with cute alpacas!! Highly recommended.
Thanks for visiting Shamarra!

Herzensempfehlung✨️
Es war ein wunderschönes & atemberaubendes Erlebnis! Einer der schönsten Orte den man haben kann, um diese süßen flauschigen Wesen zu kuscheln. Alle waren so herzlich & warm! Von Alpaka über Hundi bis Mensch!🙏🏼 Ich bin super dankbar, dass ich meinen letzten Tag in Christchurch dort verbracht hab! Komplette Empfehlung, wenn man diesen sonst eher schüchternen Tieren näher kommen will. Wenn man ihnen Achtsam & mit Respekt näher kommt, kann man sie sogar umarmen.🥹 Sehr dankbar!
